RRB Technician 2026: Syllabus, Cut Off, Salary & Dates

RRB Technician recruits skilled technical staff for Indian Railways workshops, sheds and the signal department. It has two posts: Technician Grade I Signal (Pay Level 5) and Technician Grade III in many trades (Pay Level 2). Each post has its own CBT, followed by document verification and a medical examination.

How selection works

Grade I Signal and Grade III have separate CBTs. Marks from different shifts are normalised, and candidates are shortlisted for document verification in a 1:1 ratio to the vacancies of each RRB, post and category, based on CBT merit. After passing the medical examination for the post's medical standard, candidates are empanelled and allotted railways according to merit and preference.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Technician Grade I Signal and Grade III?
Grade I Signal is a Pay Level 5 post (Rs 29,200 starting basic) for B.Sc. or engineering diploma/degree holders. Grade III is a Pay Level 2 post (Rs 19,900 starting basic) for 10th + ITI or Act Apprentice candidates in specific trades.
What is the age limit for RRB Technician 2026?
Grade I Signal: 18-33 years. Grade III: 18-30 years. Both are counted as on 1 July 2026, with the usual relaxation for reserved categories.
Is there negative marking in the RRB Technician exam?
Yes. One-third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer in both CBTs.
How many stages are there in RRB Technician selection?
Only one exam, the CBT. It is followed by document verification and a medical examination. There is no PET or skill test.
How many vacancies are there in RRB Technician 2026?
CEN 02/2026 has 6,557 posts: 323 for Grade I Signal and 6,234 for Grade III.
When is the RRB Technician 2026 exam?
The CBT for CEN 02/2026 is scheduled from 6 to 9 October 2026.
What is the minimum qualifying mark in the Technician CBT?
40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25% for ST. Actual cut offs are usually higher and differ by RRB and post.
