RPF Constable & SI 2026: Syllabus, Cut Off, Salary & Dates

This recruitment fills Constable (Executive) and Sub-Inspector (Executive) posts in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF), which guard railway property and passengers. The latest completed cycle was run by the Railway Recruitment Boards under CEN RPF 01/2024 (SI) and CEN RPF 02/2024 (Constable). Selection has a computer-based test (CBT), physical efficiency and measurement tests (PET/PMT), document verification and a medical test. In October 2025 the Railway Minister announced that future RPF recruitment will be held annually by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

How selection works

Candidates are shortlisted from the CBT on normalised marks and called for PET, PMT and document verification. PET and PMT are qualifying only. The final panel is drawn up post-wise, category-wise and separately for men and women on the basis of normalised CBT marks of those who clear PET/PMT and document verification, followed by a medical examination.

Frequently asked questions

Who will conduct the next RPF recruitment?
The Railway Minister announced in October 2025 that RPF recruitment will be conducted every year by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The 2024 cycle was conducted by the Railway Recruitment Boards.
Is the RPF 2026 notification out?
No official notification has been released as of 28 September 2026. Watch ssc.gov.in and rpf.indianrailways.gov.in, and ignore unofficial 'notification' posts on social media.
Is there negative marking in the RPF CBT?
Yes. One-third of a mark is cut for each wrong answer in the 120-question CBT.
Do PET/PMT marks count in the final merit?
No. PET and PMT are qualifying only. The final merit list is based on normalised CBT marks of those who pass PET/PMT and document verification.
What is the running standard in the RPF Constable PET?
Men must run 1600 m in 5 min 45 sec and women 800 m in 3 min 40 sec (2024 cycle). There are also long jump and high jump tests.
What is the height required for RPF?
For men, 165 cm (UR/OBC) or 160 cm (SC/ST); for women, 157 cm (UR/OBC) or 152 cm (SC/ST). Some notified hill and martial groups get lower limits of 163 cm (men) and 155 cm (women).
What is the salary of RPF Constable and SI?
Constable is a Pay Level 3 post (basic Rs 21,700) and Sub-Inspector is a Pay Level 6 post (basic Rs 35,400), plus allowances.
What was the RPF Constable final cut off in the last cycle?
For CEN RPF 02/2024 the final cut off (normalised, out of 100) for UR was 77.71435 for men and 77.32802 for women.
