RRB Group D 2026: Syllabus, Cut Off, Salary & Dates

RRB Group D recruits staff for Level 1 posts across Indian Railways, such as Track Maintainer Grade IV, Pointsman-B and Assistant posts in engineering, mechanical, electrical and S&T departments. It is open to 10th-pass or ITI/NAC holders. Selection has four stages: a single computer based test (CBT), a physical efficiency test (PET), document verification and medical examination.

How selection works

Every candidate writes one CBT; marks from different shifts are normalised. Using CBT merit, each RRB calls candidates equal to three times the vacancies (community-wise) for the PET, which is only pass/fail. From those who pass PET, candidates equal to the number of vacancies (1:1) are called for document verification and medical examination based on CBT merit. Posts and railways are then allotted according to merit, choice and medical fitness.

Frequently asked questions

What is the age limit for RRB Group D 2026 (CEN 09/2025)?
18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2026. OBC-NCL get 3 extra years, SC/ST get 5, and PwBD get 10 to 15 depending on category.
Is ITI compulsory for RRB Group D?
No. A 10th pass certificate alone is enough. ITI or National Apprenticeship Certificate holders are also eligible.
Is there negative marking in the Group D CBT?
Yes. One-third of a mark is cut for every wrong answer. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.
What are the PET standards for RRB Group D?
Men must carry 35 kg for 100 m within 2 minutes and run 1000 m in 4 min 15 sec. Women must carry 20 kg for 100 m within 2 minutes and run 1000 m in 5 min 40 sec. Each event is allowed only one chance.
Do PET marks count in the final merit?
No. The PET is only qualifying. Final merit is based on normalised CBT marks, for candidates who pass the PET.
What is the salary of an RRB Group D employee?
Group D posts are in Pay Level 1 with a starting basic pay of Rs 18,000 per month, plus DA, HRA and other allowances as per rules.
How many vacancies are there in RRB Group D 2026?
CEN 09/2025 notified 22,195 Level 1 vacancies across all railway zones.
When will the RRB Group D 2026 result come?
The CBT was held in August 2026 and the answer key came out on 7 Sept 2026. The result had not been declared as of 28 Sept 2026; watch your regional RRB website.
