SSC GD Constable 2026: Syllabus, Cut Off, Salary & Dates

SSC GD is the biggest 10th-pass recruitment run by the Staff Selection Commission. It fills Constable (General Duty) posts in BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB, Constable posts in the Secretariat Security Force (SSF) and Rifleman (GD) posts in Assam Rifles. Selection goes through a computer based test, a physical standard and efficiency test (PST/PET), a detailed medical exam and document verification.

How selection works

Candidates are shortlisted for PST/PET on the basis of normalised CBT marks (plus NCC bonus, if any), roughly 8 times the vacancies, separately for each state/area and category. PST and PET are only qualifying. Those who clear them go to the detailed medical exam and document verification, and final merit is drawn from the normalised CBT score, state-wise, area-wise and category-wise, with forces allotted by merit and preference. Ties are broken by marks in Part A, then Part B, then Part C, then the older candidate, then alphabetical order of name.

What is the qualification for SSC GD Constable?
You only need to have passed Class 10 (matriculation) from a recognised board by the crucial date, which was 1 January 2026 for the 2026 cycle.
What is the age limit for SSC GD 2026?
18 to 23 years as on 1 January 2026. SC/ST get 5 extra years and OBC gets 3.
Is there negative marking in SSC GD?
Yes. Each question is worth 2 marks and 0.25 mark is cut for every wrong answer.
How many vacancies were there in SSC GD 2026?
25,487 posts in total (23,467 for men and 2,020 for women), with CISF having the largest share at 14,595.
How long is the SSC GD running test?
Men must run 5 km in 24 minutes and women 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes. Candidates from Ladakh have shorter distances. The test is qualifying only.
What is the salary of an SSC GD Constable?
All posts are in Pay Level 3, with basic pay of Rs 21,700 (range Rs 21,700 - 69,100), plus allowances.
Can I write the SSC GD exam in Hindi or my regional language?
Yes. Apart from English and Hindi, the CBT is offered in 13 regional languages.
When will the SSC GD 2027 notification come?
It had not been released as of 28 September 2026. SSC's calendar points to October-November 2026, but watch ssc.gov.in for the official date.
