How selection works

Session I of the CBE is qualifying, and Session II is evaluated only for those who clear it. Merit uses normalised Session II marks. Minimum qualifying marks are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for others, in both sessions. MTS cut offs are set separately for each state/UT and category. Havaldar candidates are shortlisted in a set ratio for PET/PST, which is qualifying only. Final selection follows merit, the choice of post/area you made, and document verification. Has the SSC MTS 2026 notification been released?

Not yet, as of 28 Sept 2026. The latest completed notification is MTS & Havaldar 2025, whose exam was held in February 2026.

Is there negative marking in SSC MTS?

Only in Session II, where each wrong answer costs 1 mark. Session I (Maths and Reasoning) has no negative marking.

Which session decides the SSC MTS merit?

Session II (General Awareness + English, 150 marks). Session I only has to be cleared, and Session II is checked only for those who clear it.

What is the qualification for SSC MTS?

Class 10 (matriculation) pass or equivalent from a recognised board.

What is the age limit for MTS and Havaldar?

MTS is mostly 18-25 years, and Havaldar and some MTS posts are 18-27 years. Age is counted as on 1 August of the exam year (1 Aug 2025 for the 2025 cycle), and reserved categories get relaxation.

Is there a physical test in SSC MTS?

Only for Havaldar. Men walk 1,600 m in 15 minutes and women walk 1 km in 20 minutes, and there are height and chest (men) or height and weight (women) standards. MTS posts have no physical test.

Are SSC MTS cut offs the same across India?

No. MTS cut offs are released separately for each state/UT and category, so they can differ a lot from one state to another.

Can I take the SSC MTS exam in Hindi or a regional language?

Yes. The CBE is offered in Hindi, English and 13 regional languages.
