RRB NTPC 2026: Syllabus, Cut Off, Salary & Dates

RRB NTPC fills non-technical Group C posts in Indian Railways such as Station Master, Goods Train Manager, clerks, typists and ticket staff. The Railway Recruitment Boards run two separate notices each cycle: a Graduate-level CEN (Pay Level 4 to 6) and an Undergraduate (12th pass) CEN (Pay Level 2 and 3). Both have two computer-based tests (CBT-1 and CBT-2), followed by a Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) or a Typing Skill Test for certain posts, then document verification and medical exam.

How selection works

CBT-1 only screens candidates: those who reach the minimum percentage are shortlisted RRB-wise and community-wise (about 15 times the vacancies) for CBT-2, and CBT-1 marks are not used after that. CBT-2 marks decide merit. Since each CBT runs in many shifts, raw scores are normalised before merit lists are drawn. For Station Master (and Traffic Assistant) the final merit uses 70% of the CBT-2 score and 30% of the CBAT score, and a T-score of at least 42 in every CBAT battery is required. For typist posts the Typing Skill Test is only qualifying, so merit stays on CBT-2 marks. Candidates are then called for document verification and medical examination, and posts are allotted according to merit, the post preferences given in the application and medical fitness.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between RRB NTPC Graduate and Undergraduate?
They are two separate notices. Graduate-level posts (Station Master, Goods Train Manager, Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor, Junior Accounts Assistant, Senior Clerk, Traffic Assistant) need a degree and pay Level 4 to 6. Undergraduate posts (Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Accounts Clerk, Junior Clerk, Trains Clerk) need Class 12 and pay Level 2 or 3. The exam pattern is the same, but the question level differs.
Is there negative marking in RRB NTPC?
Yes. In both CBT-1 and CBT-2, one-third of a mark is cut for every wrong answer. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.
Are CBT-1 marks counted in the final merit?
No. CBT-1 is only a screening test. Final merit is based on CBT-2 marks, plus CBAT marks (30% weightage) for Station Master and Traffic Assistant.
What is the age limit for RRB NTPC?
For the CEN 06/2025 and 07/2025 cycle it was 18-33 years for Graduate posts and 18-30 years for Undergraduate posts, counted as on 1 January 2026. OBC-NCL get 3 years and SC/ST 5 years of relaxation. For the 2026 cycle the age is counted as on 1 January 2027; confirm the limits in the detailed notice.
What typing speed is needed for NTPC typist posts?
30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on a computer. The Typing Skill Test is qualifying only.
Can a graduate apply for the NTPC Undergraduate posts?
Yes. The Undergraduate notice asks for Class 12 as the minimum, so graduates can apply to both notices, subject to the age limit of each.
How many vacancies are there in RRB NTPC 2026?
The short notice of September 2026 lists 5,165 posts: 3,477 at Graduate level (CEN 06/2026) and 1,688 at Undergraduate level (CEN 07/2026). The detailed notices were due on 7 and 14 October 2026.
Is the RRB NTPC cut off the same across India?
No. Cut offs are released separately for each of the 21 RRBs and for each category, and for some stages they are also post-wise, so they vary a lot from one RRB to another.
