  • 44 lessons per layout: home row → top row → bottom row → Shift keys → words → sentences → paragraphs.
  • Drills use real Hindi words and letters made only from the keys you have learnt.
  • For Remington layouts every letter shows its key order (कि = F then D).

Hindi typing – questions

Which Hindi typing layout should I learn – InScript, Remington GAIL or Kruti Dev?

Read your exam notification first. Many central exams that use Unicode Hindi (Mangal font) allow both InScript and Remington GAIL; some state, court and department tests ask for Kruti Dev 010. If you have never typed Hindi, InScript is the government standard and easy to learn. If you learnt on a typewriter or Kruti Dev, Remington GAIL keeps the same keys and gives Unicode text.

What is the difference between Remington GAIL and Kruti Dev?

Both use the Remington typewriter key positions, so the letters are on the same keys. Kruti Dev 010 is an old non-Unicode font, while Remington GAIL gives Unicode (Mangal) text that works everywhere. A few keys differ: the Shift keys of the number row, halant, nukta, पूर्ण विराम (।), ृ, त्र and द्ध. This tutor has a separate keyboard for each.

Do I need to install Kruti Dev or Mangal font or change my keyboard?

No. Type on your normal English keyboard – the tutor reads which physical key you press and shows the Hindi letter, even if Hindi is not installed on your computer.

How is Hindi typing speed counted?

Every key you press is one key depression; 5 key depressions = 1 word. Speed (WPM) counts the keys of the words you typed correctly. KDPH = correct key depressions per hour. Error % = (full mistakes + half mistakes ÷ 2) ÷ words typed × 100.

What speed do I need for a Hindi typing test?

Most clerk-level Hindi typing tests ask for about 25–30 words per minute with few mistakes (for example SSC CHSL Hindi typing: 30 WPM, about 9,000 key depressions per hour). Check your own notification.

Is this Hindi typing tutor free?

Yes – all Hindi typing lessons and tests are free, run in your browser and save your progress in the browser. No download and no sign-up.
