Questions

How do I check my typing speed?

Open the typing speed test, choose 1, 2, 3 or 5 minutes and start typing the words shown. When the time is over you see your speed in WPM (words per minute) and KDPH (key depressions per hour), your accuracy and the keys you miss most.

How is WPM calculated?

Every 5 correctly typed characters (spaces included) count as one word. WPM = correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. KDPH = correct characters per hour, so 35 WPM = 10,500 KDPH.

What is a good typing speed?

As a rough guide: below 25 WPM is a beginner, 30–40 WPM is average, 45–60 WPM is good and above 60 WPM is fast. For job and exam typing tests, accuracy matters as much as speed – aim for 95% or more.

How can I learn typing fast as a beginner?

Learn touch typing: keep your fingers on the home row (A S D F – J K L ;), let each finger press only its own keys and never look at the keyboard. Practise 30 minutes twice a day; the free lessons here take you from the home row to full passages step by step.
