spectroscopy in SSC previous-year questions
- SSC Steno 2026 T-1 Spelling
Fill in the blank with the correctly spelt word.
The scientist used ________ techniques to analyze the molecular structure.Answer & explanation
Answer: C) spectroscopy
Rule: the word is built from two Greek-Latin parts, and both keep the linking o:
spectr-o- (from *spectrum*, an image or band) + -scopy (from *skopein*, to look at).
So the spelling runs spectr-o-sc-o-py, with a single p.
Example of my own: *micro + scopy =* microscopy; *endo + scopy =* endoscopy.
spectroscopy = the study of how matter absorbs and emits light, used to identify substances *(वर्णक्रम-विज्ञान, स्पेक्ट्रमिकी)* — exactly what a scientist uses on a molecular structure.
Why the others are wrong.
• spectroscapy — the suffix is written -scapy; there is no such ending. `-scape` means a view of scenery *(दृश्य)*, as in *landscape*, and never joins to *spectro-*.
• spectrascopy — uses s
