Simplify: (√3 + √5)² + (√3 - √5)² + 2(√3 + √5)(√3 - √5)
Answer: D) 1212
Let a = (√3 + √5) and b = (√3 - √5).
The expression = a² + b² + 2ab = (a + b)²
a + b = (√3 + √5) + (√3 - √5) = 2√3
(2√3)² = 4 x 3 = 12
व्यंजक = a² + b² + 2ab = (a + b)²
a + b = (√3 + √5) + (√3 - √5) = 2√3
(2√3)² = 4 x 3 = 12

If tan²θ + cot²θ = 50, then find sec⁴θ + cosec⁴θ.
Answer: A) 26002600
tan²θ + cot²θ = 50
We know:
sec⁴θ + cosec⁴θ
= (1 + tan²θ)² + (1 + cot²θ)²
= tan⁴θ + cot⁴θ + 2(tan²θ + cot²θ) + 2
Now,
tan⁴θ + cot⁴θ
= (tan²θ + cot²θ)² - 2
= 50² - 2
= 2498
So,
sec⁴θ + cosec⁴θ
= 2498 + 2 × 50 + 2
= 2600tan² θ + cot² θ = 50
sec ⁴θ + cosec ⁴θ
= (1 + tan² θ )² + (1 + cot² θ )²
= tan ⁴θ + cot ⁴θ + 2(tan² θ + cot² θ ) + 2
tan ⁴θ + cot ⁴θ
= (tan² θ + cot² θ )² - 2
= 50² - 2
= 2498
sec ⁴θ + cosec ⁴θ
= 2498 + 2 × 50 + 2
= 2600 -

A product is sold at a 20% discount on its marked price. This transaction results in a profit of 10% on its cost price. If the profit earned is ₹300, what would have been the selling price if the product was sold at a 30% discount on its marked price?
Answer: A) ₹2887.50₹2887.50
Profit = 10% of CP = ₹300
→ CP = ₹3000 SP at 20% discount
= 1.1 × 3000 = ₹3300
MP =3300/0.8= ₹4125 SP at 30%
discount = 4125 × 0.7 = ₹2887.50
= 4125 × 0.7 = ₹2887.50

Complete the series: 9, 28, 65, 126, 217, ?
Answer: C) 344344
Rule: when a series climbs this fast, test the cubes and squares of the small counting numbers before you start taking differences.
Match each term to a cube.
2³ = 8, and 8 + 1 = 9
3³ = 27, and 27 + 1 = 28
4³ = 64, and 64 + 1 = 65
5³ = 125, and 125 + 1 = 126
6³ = 216, and 216 + 1 = 217
Name the pattern.
The terms are n³ + 1, with n running 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
The next term.
n = 7
7³ = 343
343 + 1 = 344
The same answer from the differences.
Differences: 19, 37, 61, 91
Second differences: 18, 24, 30 — rising by 6, so the next second difference is 36.
Next difference = 91 + 36 = 127, and 217 + 127 = 344.
Answer: 344
342 is the planted trap — it is 343 − 1. The series adds one to the cube; it does not take one away.
2³ = 8, और 8 + 1 = 9
3³ = 27, और 27 + 1 = 28
4³ = 64, और 64 + 1 = 65
5³ = 125, और 125 + 1 = 126
6³ = 216, और 216 + 1 = 217
n = 7
7³ = 343
343 + 1 = 344

If COLD = 3 15 12 4, and the pattern is to multiply the position of each letter by 2, then what will be the code for HEAT?
Answer: A) 16 10 2 40
Rule: find each letter's alphabet position (A = 1 … Z = 26), then apply the stated operation — here × 2.
COLD shows the positions.
C = 3, O = 15, L = 12, D = 4
Code HEAT.
Letter | H | E | A | T
Position | 8 | 5 | 1 | 20

Answer: 16 10 2 40
T is the 20th letter (EJOTY: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25), so its code is 40, not 38. -

Q7English · Direct & Indirect SpeechSSC CPO 2025 T-1 · 12-Dec-2025 Shift 2
Choose the correct indirect speech of the sentence:
She said, "Don't you understand the seriousness of the matter?"Answer: B) She asked whether I didn't understand the seriousness of the matter.
The correct answer is: She asked if I understood the seriousness of the matter.
The original sentence is a Yes/No question ('Don't you understand...?'). Rules for reporting Yes/No questions:
1. Reporting verb: 'said' → 'asked'.
2. Introduce the reported question with 'if' or 'whether'.
3. Change to affirmative (statement) word order: Subject + Verb.
4. Tense backshift: 'understand' (present) → 'understood' (past).
5. Pronoun: 'you' → 'I'; 'the matter' stays.
Reported: 'She asked if I understood the seriousness of the matter.'
Why other options are wrong:
Option 1 — 'why I didn't understand': Uses 'why' — but the original is a Yes/No question, not a Wh -question. 'If/whether' must be used.
Option 2 — 'whether I didn't understand': While 'whether' is acceptable, using 'didn't understand' retains the negative — in indirect speech, 'Don't you...?' becomes affirmative 'if I understood...', not 'if I didn't understand'.
Option 4 — 'asked do I understand': Inverted question order retained; incorrect for indirect speech.
Correct answer: Option 3 — She asked if I understood the seriousness of the matter. -

**Change the following from active to passive:**
They had not been considering alternative scenarios sufficiently.Answer: D) Alternative scenarios had not been being considered sufficiently.
Active tense is past perfect continuous (had not been + V-ing).
Passive form of past perfect continuous = had not been being + past participle.
Hence "Alternative scenarios had not been being considered sufficiently." -
