Sohan borrows a sum of ₹1,41,545 at the rate of 11% per annum simple interest. At the end of the first year, he repays ₹25,490 towards return of principal amount borrowed. If Sohan clears all pending dues at the end of the second year, including interest payment that accrued during the first year, how much does he pay (in ₹) at the end of the second year?
Answer: B) 1,44,391
A=1,41,545 × 1.22 − 25,490 × 1.11
= 1,72,684.90 − 28,293.90 = ₹1,44,391 -

The height of a right circular cone is 63 cm and the area of its curved surface is five times the area of its base. What is the volume (in cm³) of the cone? (Use π = 22/7)
Answer: D) 10914.7510914.75
#IMG /home/claude/cgl2/figs/sol/CGL-T2-2024-MEN-002.png|4.5
Rule — curved surface area of a cone = π × r × l, base area = π × r².
The condition on the two areas fixes the slant height in terms of the radius.
Slant height in terms of the radius.
π × r × l = 5 × π × r²
l = 5r
r² from the height.
l² = r² + h²
(5r)² = r² + 63²
25r² − r² = 3969
24r² = 3969
r² = 3969 ÷ 24 = 165.375
Volume.
(1/3) × π × r² × h = (1/3) × (22/7) × 165.375 × 63
= 22 × 165.375 × 3
= 66 × 165.375
= 10,914.75 cm³
The volume needs only r², so stop at r² = 165.375 — taking its square root just wastes time.#IMG /home/claude/cgl2/figs/sol/CGL-T2-2024-MEN-002.png|4.5
π × r × l = 5 × π × r²
l = 5r
ऊँचाई से r²।
l² = r² + h²
(5r)² = r² + 63²
25r² − r² = 3969
24r² = 3969
r² = 3969 ÷ 24 = 165.375
(1/3) × π × r² × h = (1/3) × (22/7) × 165.375 × 63
= 22 × 165.375 × 3
= 66 × 165.375

If x, y and z are positive numbers and x + y + z = 1, then the least value of 1/x+1/y+1/z is:
Answer: A) 9
Given x, y, z > 0 and x + y + z = 1.
By AM ≥ GM on the three numbers 1/x,1/y,1/z:(1/x +1/y +1/z)/3 ≥ (1/xyz)^(1/3)
Also, for fixed sum 1, the product xyz is maximum when x = y = z = 1/3, so minimum of 1/x+1/y+1/z will occur at x = y = z = 1/3.
Then:
1/x +1/y +1/z =3/(1/3) = 9 -

In each of the following questions, a word is transformed into another using a specific alphabetic pattern (such as letter shifting or substitution). Apply the same transformation to the third word to determine the correct answer from the given options.
HOUSE : GNTRD :: ?
HOUSE : GNTRD :: ? : KHFGSAnswer: D) LIGHTLIGHT
Compare each letter of HOUSE with the corresponding letter of GNTRD:
H → G (−1), O → N (−1), U → T (−1), S → R (−1), E → D (−1).
The rule is: shift each letter back by 1.
To get '?' → KHFGS, the source word must be K + 1, H + 1, F + 1, G + 1, S + 1 = L, I, G, H, T.
Hence the missing word is LIGHT.HOUSE

In a certain code, WARM is written as NIZD.
What will COLD be written as in the same code?Answer: A) TWTU
Rule: find the shift for each position of the word; wrap round the alphabet (add or subtract 26) when a shift passes A or Z.
WARM → NIZD.
W(23) → N(14): −9
A(1) → I(9): +8
R(18) → Z(26): +8
M(13) → D(4): −9
Apply to COLD.
C(3) − 9 = −6 → −6 + 26 = 20 = T
O(15) + 8 = 23 = W
L(12) + 8 = 20 = T
D(4) − 9 = −5 → −5 + 26 = 21 = U
Answer: TWTU
NIZD is also the opposite letters of WARM written in reverse, but that rule gives WOLX — not in the options — so the shift pattern is the one intended. -

The letters of the word COURSE are arranged in alphabetical order. How many letters are there between the letter that is first from the left end and the letter that is last from the right end in the new arrangement as per alphabetical dictionary?
Answer: C) 17
Rule: arrange the letters first, pick the two end letters, then count the letters lying between them in the English alphabet: (larger position − smaller position − 1).
Arrange COURSE.
C = 3, O = 15, U = 21, R = 18, S = 19, E = 5
Alphabetical order: C E O R S U
The two end letters.
First from the left = C
Last letter of the arrangement (right end) = U
Count between them in the alphabet.
C = 3, U = 21
21 − 3 − 1 = 17 (D to T)
Answer: 17
"Between" excludes both end letters — 21 − 3 = 18 is the trap. -
