Q1. How many days of wage employment are guaranteed under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025?
- (a) 100 days
- (b) 110 days
- (c) 125 days
- (d) 150 days
Answer & solution
Answer: (c) 125 days
The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 (VB-G RAM G) guarantees every rural household 125 days of unskilled wage employment in a financial year.
It replaced the MGNREGA, 2005, which guaranteed 100 days — so the guarantee went up by 25 days.
Revision note — VB-G RAM G Act, 2025
• The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 15 December 2025 by Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
• Both Houses passed it in the winter session and it received the President's assent on 21 December 2025.
• It repeals the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 — the law in force since February 2006 — and the scheme drops Gandhi's name.
• Guarantee: 125 days a year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer for unskilled manual work; the household still applies for work and must be given it within 15 days.
• Funding changes from the Centre paying the whole unskilled wage bill to a 60 : 40 Centre–State share (about 90 : 10 for the North-Eastern and Himalayan states).
• States may notify a pause of up to 60 days in the peak agricultural season, when work under the Act need not be provided so that farm labour is not drawn away.
• Works are grouped under themes such as water security, rural infrastructure, livelihood assets and Viksit Gaon planning, with the Gram Panchayat at the centre of planning.
Do not mix these up
• VB-G RAM G vs PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana — the first is a rural wage-employment law (125 days); the second, announced on 15 August 2025, pays ₹15,000 to youth in their first private-sector job.
• 125 days vs 100 days — 100 days was the MGNREGA guarantee; the new Act raises it to 125.
Also asked from this topic: the Act that VB-G RAM G replaced (MGNREGA, 2005); the number of days now guaranteed (125); the kind of work guaranteed under the rural employment law (unskilled manual work).
